Cookie Policy

What cookies we and our partners use, why, and how to opt out. Last updated May 2, 2026.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store on your device. They're used for things like remembering your preferences (light or dim theme), keeping you logged into a site between visits, measuring how a site is used, and — most relevant here — supporting advertising.

What we use cookies for

ScaleRecipe itself does not set any first-party cookies for tracking, analytics, or authentication. We don't have a server-side user model, so there is nothing to remember on our side that would require a cookie. The preferences we store on your device — theme, saved recipes, recently viewed list — live in localStorage and sessionStorage, not in cookies. See our Privacy Policy for details on how those work.

Third-party cookies — advertising

ScaleRecipe carries advertising served by Google AdSense, a third-party ad service. Google and its partners may use cookies (including the DSID, NID, and IDE cookies) and similar technologies — for example, web beacons or device identifiers — to show ads based on your prior visits to this site or to other websites on the internet.

Specifically, Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to ScaleRecipe and other sites. These cookies may be used to:

  • Personalise the ads you see on this and other sites,
  • Measure ad performance and frequency (so you don't see the same ad ten times),
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse,
  • Aggregate analytics about how ads perform across the network.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info (US) or www.youronlinechoices.eu (EEA/UK).

Categories of cookies you may encounter

Strictly necessary

None on ScaleRecipe — the site works without any first-party cookies. Some hosting and CDN layers may set short-lived session cookies for load balancing or security; these are not used for tracking.

Preferences (local storage, not cookies)

Your theme choice (light / dim), saved recipes, recently viewed list, and shopping list are kept in your browser's localStorage. They never leave your device.

Analytics

ScaleRecipe does not run a third-party analytics service. If we add one in the future (for example a privacy-respecting product like Plausible or Cabin), this page will be updated to describe it before it goes live.

Advertising

Google AdSense and its partners — see the section above. These are the third-party cookies most likely to appear in your browser's storage panel while using ScaleRecipe.

Manage your consent

You set your cookie preferences when you first visited the site. To revisit that choice — switch from rejected to accepted, or vice versa, or fine-tune individual categories — use the button below. It clears your stored choice and re-opens the consent banner.

Your stored consent applies only to this device and this browser. If you visit on a different device or browser, the banner will appear again on first visit.

How to manage cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you view, accept, refuse, and delete cookies through their settings. Refusing all cookies will not break ScaleRecipe — the site will still work — but you may see less relevant ads, and some third-party features (like the YouTube embeds on recipe pages) may degrade.

Your regional rights

If you visit ScaleRecipe from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR including the right to access, correct, port, or delete personal data; the right to object to processing; and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. If you visit from California, you have rights under the CCPA / CPRA — including the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.

Because ScaleRecipe doesn't collect personal data on its own, most of these rights apply primarily to data that our advertising partners collect via cookies. The opt-out links above are the most direct way to exercise them. If you have a specific request, write to us via the contact page.

Changes to this policy

If we change which cookies are used on the site — for example, adding analytics or switching ad networks — we'll update this page and revise the date at the top.
