Terms of Use

The agreement between you and ScaleRecipe when you use the site. Last updated May 2, 2026.

Plain-English summary

ScaleRecipe is a free tool. Use it for personal cooking; don't sue us if a recipe doesn't turn out; respect TheMealDB's ownership of the recipe content. The legal-ish detail follows.

Acceptance

By using ScaleRecipe (the “Service”), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. We may update these terms; the current version is always at this URL with the date above.

What ScaleRecipe is

ScaleRecipe is a personal-use tool for cooks: it scales recipes, converts kitchen units, and lets you browse recipes from TheMealDB. It's provided free of charge to use, with no accounts and no paywall. The site is supported by advertising via Google AdSense — see the Cookie Policy for the detail. We make no commercial guarantee that the Service will continue to be free, available, or unchanged in the future.

Recipe content

Recipes you see on this site come from TheMealDB, a third-party community-curated database. ScaleRecipe is not affiliated with TheMealDB; we don't edit, author, or claim ownership of any recipe text, photographs, or instructions. All rights to the recipe content belong to TheMealDB and its contributors and are governed by their terms.

Editorial content written by ScaleRecipe — the journal articles, cuisine guides, converter explainers, FAQ answers, About page, and similar prose — is © ScaleRecipe. You may quote short passages with attribution; please don't republish substantial portions without permission.

Use of the recipe scaler and converters

The scaler and converters are provided for general guidance. The math is correct, but cooking outcomes depend on factors we cannot account for: ingredient freshness, equipment differences, oven calibration, your kitchen's humidity, and your judgement. ScaleRecipe does not guarantee any particular cooking result and is not liable for ingredients wasted, time spent, or dishes that didn't turn out.

The cooking-time guide explicitly provides estimates only; always verify doneness with a thermometer or sensory check, especially for meat and bread. The site is not a substitute for the judgement of a trained cook.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the URL-import endpoint to harvest recipes at scale or republish them commercially.
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, scrape the site programmatically, or use the API endpoints in ways that would interfere with normal operation.
  • Reverse-engineer the site to identify, target, or de-anonymise other users (there are no “users” on our side, but please don't try anyway).
  • Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.

External links

The site links to external resources — TheMealDB, King Arthur Baking, USDA, recipe sources, etc. We don't control these sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices. Linking to a site is not an endorsement of its full content.

No warranty

ScaleRecipe is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee uninterrupted availability, the absence of bugs, or that the Service will meet your specific needs. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScaleRecipe and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including (without limitation) damages for lost profits, lost time, lost data, or ingredient waste, arising from or relating to your use of the Service.

Changes to the Service

We may add, remove, or modify features at any time. We may discontinue the Service entirely, with or without notice. Because there are no accounts and no stored data on our side, you won't lose anything if we shut down — your saved recipes live in your browser's storage and can be exported by clearing the site.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where ScaleRecipe is operated. Any disputes will be resolved in that jurisdiction's courts. If you're using the site from somewhere with stronger consumer protections, those protections apply where they legally must.
