The short version
ScaleRecipe is a tool that helps you scale, convert, and explore recipes. The information on the site is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not medical, dietary, allergen, food-safety, or professional culinary advice. If a decision in the kitchen has health stakes — an allergy, a chronic condition, a pregnancy, infant feeding, an immunocompromised person, food preservation — consult a qualified professional, not a recipe website.
Recipes are user-facing content from a third-party database
The recipes you browse on ScaleRecipe are sourced from TheMealDB, an open community-maintained recipe database. We don't test, retest, or verify each recipe for accuracy, food safety, or nutritional completeness. Cooking times, temperatures, ingredient lists, and method steps reflect what TheMealDB's contributors uploaded — not the result of independent kitchen testing on our part. Treat them as a starting point, not a final authority.
Allergens and dietary restrictions
ScaleRecipe does notverify or label recipes for allergens (gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy, shellfish, sesame, etc.). Ingredient lists may be incomplete, cross-contamination is not addressed, and a recipe tagged “Vegan” or “Vegetarian” reflects the contributor's self-identification, not an independent audit. If you cook for someone with a serious food allergy or dietary restriction, verify every ingredient against the manufacturer's label or with a qualified dietitian.
Nutritional information
ScaleRecipe does not currently calculate or display nutritional values (calories, macronutrients, sodium, sugar, etc.). Any nutritional figures that may appear in future versions of the site will be estimates based on standard ingredient databases (e.g. USDA FoodData Central) and will vary considerably with brand, preparation, and scaling. Do not rely on those estimates for medical, athletic, or weight-management decisions.
Food safety
Cooking temperatures, holding times, and storage guidance vary by jurisdiction and by the specific food. ScaleRecipe's recipes do not consistently note minimum safe internal temperatures or unsafe-handling cautions. For authoritative food-safety guidance:
- United States — USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service
- United Kingdom — Food Standards Agency
- European Union — European Food Safety Authority
- Canada — Health Canada
- Australia / New Zealand — FSANZ
Recipe scaling caveats
ScaleRecipe's scaling math is exact — multiply each quantity by the ratio, promote units sensibly, present the result in proper culinary fractions. Cooking, unfortunately, is not always linear. A few things scaling alone does not handle:
- Cooking timedoesn't scale linearly. A doubled cake takes longer, but not twice as long; a doubled stew takes roughly twice as long; a doubled roast lands somewhere between. See our cooking-time guide for sensible rules of thumb.
- Pan size and heat distribution often need to change with the recipe size. A 9-inch round at 1× may need a 13-inch at 2×, with adjusted bake time. The pan-size converter helps with the geometry.
- Seasoning is non-linear. Doubling salt, chillies, or strongly flavoured aromatics often produces a too-strong dish. Start at 1.5× and adjust to taste.
- Leavening in baking does not scale 1:1 in extreme cases (very small or very large quantities). For unusual scales, weigh ingredients and consult a baking reference.
External links
ScaleRecipe links to external resources (TheMealDB, food-safety authorities, articles, and references). We're not responsible for the content, accuracy, privacy practices, or availability of those external sites, and a link is not an endorsement.
Advertising
ScaleRecipe carries advertising — currently via Google AdSense — to help cover hosting costs. Ads are served by third parties; we don't personally select them and don't endorse the products or services they promote. See our Cookie Policy for how ad-personalisation works and how to opt out.
No professional relationship
Reading the site, using the scaler, or contacting us does not create a professional, advisory, dietitian-client, chef-client, medical, or fiduciary relationship of any kind. We respond to messages where we can, but we are not a service provider with duties to you beyond reasonable care in maintaining the site.
Limitation of liability
ScaleRecipe is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our contributors disclaim liability for damages — direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential — that arise from your use of the site, including reliance on a recipe, a conversion, or a piece of advice on the site. The same disclaimer is repeated in our Terms of Service; this page is the cooking-specific version.
Questions
If something on the site looks wrong, dangerous, or out of date, please tell us via the contact page. We can't verify every recipe in TheMealDB's database, but we can flag, correct, or remove specific entries when something is brought to our attention.
